I am surprised at a few of the negative reviews. I am a retired Architect that worked on commercial projects with PM over several decades and they've always been one of the very best. We needed some work thanks to raccoons becoming under the ground, and I phoned PM. The estimator supplied a cost that is fair and did an exhaustive review. The guys that did the work were careful and very professional to leave each rug in place. Since I really don't enjoy getting under the home they showed photos to me.
I have confidence and they will replace our furnace.

Stay away. Horrible, horrible, horrible business. Their workers are liars and drug users!

I known as Peterson and phoned. Scott Peterson gave me a very thorough proposal and it was $1,900.00 less than the competitor for the identical output in your furnace and air conditioner. Dave and Leo, both contractors, the two of whom were extremely courteous and professional, spent about 6.5 - 7 hours the first day and then about 1.5 hours finishing the next day (Dave just ). Everything that needed cleaning up cleaned up, they answered and everything works a lot more economically, quieter and much simpler than the 25-year-old furnace and air purifier that that the units replaced. I didn't need to invest the $$$$ replacing those two items for the house, but it's money VERY WELL SPENT!

There is. Their quote was aggressive to get a intricate setup that some providers said they could not perform. All the employees we dealt were courteous, professional and clearly knew what they do.

I have been a Peterson Mechanical customer for years and they are wonderful. They are highly recommended by me on a regular basis and will keep doing so. I have used them for my office in addition to my own house and they have been great in both the residential and commercial side. They are always honest and timely.
They're a family owned and managed company with deep roots in Sonoma Valley which is significant to me as a Sonoma local.

Within the 12 years we have lived at our Sonoma home, we have had Peterson in for a few smaller jobs. To date, they have been responsive and also the work, though minor, was completed satisfactorily. We named them and had a fail when turning to the furnace at the first time this year. A technician came out and identified that a control board. He said they would call us with the price of this part. They called and stated it'd be $170. The technician showed up a few days after at 8AM (no call from Peterson he was coming out). He replaced the control board, analyzed it. He asked if we wanted a electronic thermostat, and because the one we had was from about late 90's, we said yes. He moved out to the truck and put in an electronic and showed us the basics on how to use it. (He'd forget to leave the"quick reference" card for your thermostat, and we had to pick up one at Peterson.) We got the bill for the work. Peterson's charged $114 for a thermostat which retails for $48.00 and $181 (it was quoted to us at $170) for a control board which retails for $119. We called about the mark up of items and had the technician set up, but they insisted they charge standard mark-up. Really? Over 100 percent for the thermostat and more than 65% for the control board?? Businesses should know that customers can check costs. Obviously they do not pay full retail, so we have. Once the time comes, Obviously, we are going to be searching for a different vendor for a brand new furnace and AC.

Scott did an wonderful job at installing an HVAC system for my location in Sonoma. He supplied a estimate, which was detailed and well documented. The work was done in time and efficiently. Also the product was great - superb great to have it correctly and professionally installed. The crew was professional. Thanks for your work to Scott!

I had been without heat or air conditioning because my furnace and AC unit was approximately 30 years old AND all of the ducts under the house were torn (some creature with claws had gotten under the house and ripped them to shreds). Subsequently pronto he scheduled Chris and Dave to perform the work. These guys are great - smart, punctually, efficient, understand what they're doing, answer questions clearly and with responsible, neat as a pin, and patience. All of them return phone calls right away. As they work they clean up. They're prompt. They're friendly. And, if you it matters to you (it does to me) They're fellows. It was a huge job than I believed it'd be completed in a shorter time. Seamless, each step was followed by a phone call from Ryan who then took charge to get the next step such as town inspector and the testers. Everything looks gorgeous and works beautifully.

Chris was fantastic and I'll tell everyone to call them.
Very firm that is responsible.
Had a problem with my furnace and inside an hour someone was servicing it.

I have used Peterson twice today, now for a heater repair. They made the fix, and immediately were prompt determined the problem. I'll use them again.

The technician called for a different technician and they sent out to run a cable was unable to run the cable and they then billed for running the cable, me an amount. It was a wire run of approximately 20 ft and into one wall. There is walking clearance under the portion of the house, therefore running the cable across 20 feet and to the wall where the cable was shouldn't have been a problem.
As soon as I talked to a few of the directors in the company (same last name as the company, therefore I suppose he had some authority), he essentially told me too bad. He also offered to replace the venting grill using another one, but if I paid their hourly rates.
My expertise with Peterson Mechanical has been unacceptable. The caliber of work was not acceptable although they came out quickly. They made an error in sizing (too little ) a venting grill that led to the unit whistling and refused to fix it. I'd have thought they would have been able to size it since they did the A/C setup.
When I asked him about the excess time the technician spent the cable his response was they're"a time and materials store." When I asked him why I need to pay rates for a technician that didn't understand how to perform a job, he explained that if I didn't pay the complete invoice they would take me to collections.
I really don't think I've ever had a customer experience that is worse with any service company. (The phone company, etc don't count).

July 1, 2013. The new spell has caused us to turn our air conditioner. Yes, the only Peterson Mechanical installed defined and repaired. It didn't get the job done in, as it has since every summer since it was placed. We called a HVAC business to take action. They came out and the connection to the compressor leaked. This is precisely the repair that Peterson did less than a year ago..for a cost of $500+. .

The incompetent repair work of this company could have caused my own niece's home to explode causing significant property damage in the very least and potentially bodily harm or death. She called them in to repair a wall heater which had worked nice and they were able to screw up the repair so badly the furnace leaked petrol since they did not understand what they do. They misdiagnosed the problem and went to the solution of replacing the control valve managed to either install it or used the wrong one. It's fortunate that when the home was entered the next by my niece she did not create some kind of ignition source and blow the place up with her inside. She immediately called PG&E (who were helpful) who came out and shut the gas off. And then on top himself gave some song and dancing BS excuse for why they screwed up and pointing the blame elsewhere to deflect it. The furnace worked fine for 2 decades and was in new condition and was assessed by PG&E as it was installed. It ought to have been an easy fix to get a repair technician that was competent but they were able to create a dangerous situation where none existed before. In spite of a number of the reviews here, I'm saying beware of the company. Doing work that is poor is one thing, but not taking responsibility is really lousy business.
