Rey is the very best! My lease had a bathroom leak and he fixed it . Will definitely recommend him.
I checked, and it was not fixed. Then he requested me to leave him payment and that I told him (many times) that I would pay him if the furnace worked. He went , sent a confusing text about what was incorrect to me, then requested me seven days until I could verify that the heater, in reality, worked, to cover him at a 24 hour period. (Seven times seems like a lot considering that I am not a new client and I have a track record of paying him later he does work) .
I believed Rey did a job on pipes projects a number of years ago when I had two different heating and plumbing problems, so I called him.
Anyway, I (of course) put the test in the mail after the furnace worked. If I seem a little defensive about that, it's because I depended and Rey delivered me TEN text messages around getting paid. After the job was completed, and I sent the test. Rey seems like a wonderful guy and I am sad to write him such a negative review, but he really needs to do the work right, for a price that is moderate, make sure it works not irritate and badger clients. I recommend getting a quote in writing first if he is the only man you can find.
Plumbing: I have hired Rey on three events for pipes work. For me a new hot water heater a few years back he did a job. Lately it feels like his costs have gone up and the quality has gone down. I asked him to get an *estimate* on substituting a toilet sink when he was at my home doing a heating and that I just went ahead and replaced itleft the older one beneath my house, and charged me $700 (!!) .
Lacayo-Colt Plumbing has done much work on the home, they are like family. Rey Lacayo, the owner, is involved in each job and stands behind his work. When having to replace our water heater and HVAC systems, Rey always recommended the best products to use. I w!ill only go for HVAC needs and my pipes!
Rey and I met to get him provide a proposal to get a HVAC and plumbing job. My general builder had a relationship , although his bid was greater than some. He didn't respond to my email, As soon as I reached him out to start the job . I followed up to confirm when he was available. When he replied, he stated,"I don't want to do your work." And hung ... no explanation, no further interaction. I am aware that contractors are active, but I expect some level of professionalism. Rey was rude and unprofessional.
I appreciate his informal nature (scheduling via SMS, etc), but can see why some reviewers might like a more formal communications. We'll be continuing to use him in the future.
We've used Rey and team for the previous five decades. From toilet installations to a recirculating tankless hot water heater. Work quality is great and have been solved.
Called Lacayo Colt and Rey was outside to my location instantly to estimate a job. I learned the furnace was faulty. Rey bid me a central heating system for a excellent price, it's a little property. Once I get the quote and possibly the work I'll follow-up with a review. Rey was type in his poor news delivery, professional and considerate with actions. His was great although I'm tough on client support. Again I'll update on product and the follow through.
The retrofitting people I hired was a contractor. He had his people reconnect the ducts. Heating unit works good A year after.
Be careful.
I am held by him the board was needed replacement & faulty!
These guys installed the heating unit . I had some retrofitting work done. The retrofit workers disconnected a number of the ducts (u can see them separated). I called about reconnecting the heating ducts, Rey to have a look.
Ray Lacayo was great - fixed a flow I had been struggling with for a couple of days. Before trying to do anything myself, next time I'll call him.
Rey came and I was so impressed. Fixed problem. Was friendly and considerate. 1 month later would. Ot turn away. Couldnt and called get through. Learned and tested he was outta town. Asked for information. Nothing. Found someone to repair it. Haven't heard from Rey-out roughly $800 just with his work.
We called Rey at 5:10 PM on a Wednesday at which we suggested that our water heater pilot proceeds to burn . Rather although he refused to supply a quote for a new water heater over the telephone said he'd like to come have a look at 8:30 the next morning to appraise the circumstance. He arrived at 8:30 and initially seem said,"You don't need a water heater you just need to clear the dust out of the port." Apparentlyour laundry room has a port that we never understood about as it isn't easily observable (placed behind a furnace tube ). So that oxygen enters the living room in which empowers the pilot to remain 23, the flow of air from this port is needed.
Rey saved us $1,500.00. Yes!
Rey, reinforced the fact that our difficulty was no doubt that the vent as he would,"smell moisture in the air" as the new air was not entering the area.
Thanks Rey!
We cleaned years of dust and our pilot has stayed lit. We also, detect the smell is gone! We tried to eliminate this smell but didn't have any luck.
Finally, we wish to mention that we called three highly. They statedthat we needed a new water heater based on the age of the water heater and quoted between $1,300 and $1,800.00 even thought our water heater is just 6 years of age. I left Rey aware of the he said,"it is a scam that so many others will offer you a new water heater if you don't need."
Just talked to the guy about substituting the thermocoupler on my own water heater. Couldn't provide me a quote over the telephone, even though I know what is wrong with it (PG&E came out that morning and told me). On a fantastic note he had been prepared to come out in an hour. But he could not tell me whether he had the part I needed replaced, and said I might call someone 30, if he could not mend it. I could not say if he had the part, and had been skeptical about the circumstance, provided that he would not give me a quote. Abruptly. He needs to focus on his customer services.
Rey came to my home quickly after he was phoned by me. He moved into the crawl space and our water heater was not working and immediately had it functioning. He said no cost, when I asked him how much I owed. Hard to discover that kind of service. He is highly recommended by me.
We have used Rey for many years now. On our old home, we had put in a mini-split heater for a garage remodel and had him put in a hot water heater. In the previous two years he has also helped with all our new (fixer-upper) house-- replaced with the sewer lateral; put in a new furnace and ductwork (so nice not to have a floor heater fire-hazard today!) ; and got our piping to last for the previous couple of years.
We are now going to hire for probably re-piping that is complete and a hot water heater replacement. His team is effective and his prices are reasonable.
With a little experience I suggested what I thought was the issue and fix. Rey didnt tried agree with my diagnosis and failed to mend one of those issues and tried to sell me on several thousand dollars in repairs and upgrades.
I ended up fixing one issue myself for $75 in parts (took me a few hours, but that I was right about the issue ). Another plumber in less than a hour for a $150 service telephone repaired the problem.
Rey and his crew did work and a fantastic job, respectively at a sensible price.
Last time that I called for just two comparatively minor issues, things went downhill.
I dont appreciate being"marketed" on things I dont need. I only want my issue fixed. I need to be able to trust my plumber (or any tradesman) is giving me good advice. Because of this, I wont be using.
Ray was my go-to plumber for a couple of decades. He was generally available, his costs were fair, and he did good work. But then he started to grow and his costs went up. It looked like his employees were less proficient at getting the job done. I experienced a critical sewage problem on a building, and his bid was way with the other bidders on a project of a few thousand dollars. I am not saying do not utilize Ray, but be sure to get other bids until you perform!
Rey Lacayo has flaked on scheduled appointments with us more than once. This afternoon we had an appointment to fix a semi-emergency plumbing issue (kitchen drain pipe broken, together with out-of-town relatives due to arrive any moment ). Not only did he not show up in the time, he did not even call to inform us he could not make it.
Lacayo Colt Plumbing has done work for all of us in the past, but because of their lack of dependability, we'll look for a different plumber.
Rey came the day we beat the other estimates we got with this particular service by a large margin, predicted to replace our water heater and gave us great, friendly service. Highly recommend him!
Re: Lacayo-Colt Plumbing & Heating, Oakland, CaliforniaA month later, our bathroom tank device failed after many decades, and so that we would not be inconvenienced for more than a few hours Rey discovered time to make the fix.
Anyone who needs a effective and wise heating or plumbing contractor should consider Rey. He is a great joy to work with and competent in his area from my forty decades of homeowner experience, and the most knowledgeable.
Berkeley, California
We have used Rey Locarno and his plumbing firm for every plumbing need we've had for the previous four decades --and in an older Montclair property, that was a great deal of job --and now I could say only that he stays our plumber of choice by a long shot.
UPDATE AS OF NOVEMBER, 2015
We have just replaced our furnace that was 40-year-old throughout his firm and we have work completed at a reasonable price. The project involved building a stage for the shorter furnace, shifting previous piping, and updating our furnace venting to code.
For all my admiration of Rey's work, but this letter of commendation falls short: it cannot depict the cheerful, upbeat spirit that Rey brings to his work, a superb presence that makes you shoot him naturally not as your new plumber but as a friend. I dread having to call the plumber, and Rey leaves me that I will not be unattended if I have a heating or plumbing problem some Christmas Eve. Enjoy working with Rey if you have any plumbing or heating problem--it's positively and honestly a privilege.
Best plumber in the World? THE BEST PLUMBER IN THE SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA is my own belief, although I can not say. Rey Lacayo replaced our water heater--one which was installed by one of those best-known of Bay Area plumbing firms --also made the difficult-access replacement quickly, perfectly and with corrections of the not-to-code earlier work as a natural part of the endeavor, all on funding and just 1 day after we called him! Very impressive work--following years with big-name companies, I finally have a plumber whose work I believe in.
Sincerely,
To whom it might concern: July, 2015

Once we've wanted it rey is our neighborhood plumber, and has provided prompt, affordable service. He is a pleasure to work with.
Since that time, Rey has been our move to, and we urge him to family and all of our friends. Our home was built in 1926 and the plumbing is almost as old. We are on a tight budget, and he has provided us with choices which we can afford. When our ancient single-vent floor furnace expired he replaced it and gave warmth to us throughout the home, quickly and at a reasonable price.
Rey does great work, responds promptly and is efficient and professional. And he is a really great guy who's a joy.
Rey is the best! He had been recommended to us when our water heater broke . He was the only one who had a suggestion which didn't need the floor of downstairs rooms to rip up, and the plumber we called to get an estimate. (Earthquake damage had rendered the existing pipes useless.) Instead he set up a tankless heater, which saved us money on the initial repair as well as on our monthly bill.
