Thus, if you're in a pinch, these guys know what they're doing. A deal, they're not.
Pros guys. They said it wouldn't take long at all, and it did not. They were very clean, and , fast.
Disadvantages: $328 for around 15 minutes of work. After he just told me he charges $40 an hour labour, when compared with your regular plumber rate of $165 an hour, this is. He was even surprised at the rate when he wrapped up with the principal office.
I called because I had a crisis escape. The hose at the yard wouldn't turn away, and has been leaking pretty badly.

My central air conditioning stopped working. I predicted Kook & Son. My did not get the job done. On the second trip they properly diagnosed a flow in the machine, but I was afraid to go broke trying to locate the leak with this company, so I went with another vendor. They also charged me traveling time. I live.6 mile of a mile from their location.

1 star looks generous for all these offenders over at Crook and Son. . .we requested them to come leaking toilet and take a look. The guy proceeded to appear in the sink for 1 or two minutes, then he reset the disposal and then conducted it with no water flowing which producing a odor. He told me the entire thing was shot and needed to be replaced and it'd cost 575. As for the toilet, he stated they would have to pick up and set the toilet in a different place, costing 400. Sounds legit, right? When I did not fix it'd ruin the apartment ceiling below 16, he told me. . .then he gave me a sob story about a fire in his apartment, like that would make him look more human. I told him I needed to talk to my spouse, he explained if we refuse solutions we would be billed. . .for the hard job of coming to my home for 15 minutes and lying . It is tough work.
Later, on our own, we could acquire the disposal to operate again by scratching inside round the disposal, using a kitchen knife. I was told by a friend to repair the leak in the toilet by replacing the washers, which we will try or tightening the bolts.

I called to get a diagnostic on my HVAC system and they stated my machine requires an air handler component and gave me a ridiculous price quote for labor and component installation... They also stated that I should think about obtaining a new unit as it runs on r22....Furthermorethey billed me $250 for coming into my home and give me the diagnostic that took the technician less than 20 minutes to assess. These people prices are ridiculous... just because u live in JC does not justify being ripped off...

The unit was set up in April, they allow me know once the temps hit the 80s, it would have to be adjusted. They came out and did up the song and it was excellent support as always.
My ac unit broke and Kook & Son was one of 4 contractors I obtained a quotation from. The technology that came out was quite comprehensive and explained to me the challenges replacing my unit (I reside in a 750square foot apartment and the utility closet is tiny!) . Their quotes (yes they gave me choices!) Were fair, and they offered to perform the testing and service.

Howard and his team did a great job. There was an issue that developed after a year 21, Howard and the fact came back and fixed it! Would recommend.

We've used Son and Kook only over near 15 years in residences due to their professionalism, promptness and the quality of the job.
In our latest involvement our tankless hot water heater developed a flow overnight. I called Kook around 9 am and they were able to find someone there that morning even though the techs were at another job (great in and of itself) . The tech determined that the unit was under warranty and required to be replaced and then worked to troubleshoot with the manufacturer.
This is really where Kook really shined: the maker required to review pictures of the unit, where the escape was, etc. prior to approving the claim and allowing us to find a replacement unit so there was no way to schedule an appointment with Kook because we did not know specifically when we would find that info from the maker. Kook worked with us it took getting the maker the info they had and made technicians available the minute. They arrived within a few hours using the replacement unit (again, with no previously made appointment), replaced the faulty unit and had warm water up and running again in a few hours. Howard Kook, the proprietor, also called me several times to let me know they were about the case, working with their staffing to ensure someone would be available when desired, etc. because he understood that being without hot water, even briefly, is a big problem and he did not want us to be worried that we weren't being attended to at the background even as we waited for the return consent to take the next step.
We have and continue to provide that our greatest recommendation to Kook and Son.

Waste of time, nearly a waste of money. They csme over to see whats wrong eith my kitchen sink instead diagnosed my wallet. These people have the guts to attempt and control you just for coming out to your house. Complete malarkey. I'm just glad I will attempt to allow other ppl know about this"business" and their practices until they get ripped off.

I've lived here for two years and I redid the bathroom before I moved in and I know those stains weren't there before the job. The fact that they could tell me what the stain was of was disappointing.
A pipe leaked over my toilet. So they were my building uses Son and Kook.
The response was fast and professional to complain about that point.
They had opened my ceiling/wall and could get to the problem in a day or two and replaced the pipe.
So I called again Son and Kook and chased up the patch and asked what they can do. Prompt response because they had someone over instantly. They essentially tried everything I did, which was to utilize everything I had under my sink. When that didn't work (surprise!) , they tried to blame it to the tub itself, telling me it had not been glazed right to begin with.
With new issues that now need to be fixed, but the results will probably leave you in short: response time that is great. If there's anybody who knows that a trusted and competitively priced plumber in the Jersey City area, please let me know.
Unfortunately they also left quite a mess on fixtures, tiles, and my walls. I did the best I could cleaning up afterwards and asked if they had someone to patch everything up, figuring this person would put everything back to normal.
They sent two separate guys, who complained about what a mess the plumbers did using the job (they were sent by Kook and Son), and couldn't even identify some of the stuff staining my tub (a large purple splotch in partucular).

Bottom line I will not use Kook and Son again and will not recommend them.

Would not do good because we'd need to replace the entire thing, when they saw the device they told us taking steps on it. They gave us a quote for $5,450 for a brand new unit but a low end . We told Howard that we'd be receiving a quote that was 2nd and he reduced the cost to $4,995. We told him we still went to get a quote that was 2nd. That day we got a call that they mended the device and it was likely to cost us $950. We did not tell him to go ahead and fix it did he phone and confirm with us if they can go on and repair it. So today I am out $950 and it is our word against his.

My husband and I phoned them see what was wrong with our tenant's a/c unit and to get a repairman come out. They essentially put a band aid on it and explained preventative steps could be taken by them on it. We had no problem with that.

Some people don't mind paying 3x for better service. I call those people suckers. They charged me a hour from Jersey City travel time each way and also charged an hour for sitting in the van. Ridiculous.

They run a traveling time scam where they attempt to control"travel time" even for jobs done within Jersey City, where they're based. Charging for traveling time makes sense if the client is currently asking the contractor to traveling an unusual distance to the job. But it makes no sense when the service call is local. No builder I have used over the years has tried to charge for traveling. They assert that this practice is okay since it is disclosed by them but I beg to differ. Kook billed me $35 to travel 1.2 miles (the distance between my home and their offices according to Google Maps). After I'd agreed to change my appointment time so that a different customer could be serviced by them and they did this.

I called three different plumbing providers, and Kook and Son appeared the most dependable (Mind you I based my evaluation on a single telephone conversation but well... ). I requested for a budget for my 40L Gaz water heater to be substituted. Be aware that a premium is for construction and also for weekend service. I talked to Howard, the great child of the founder of this company (it's over 100 years old)
They arrived at am and left at 10:30.
Desired a water heater to be substituted in my apartment in Union City. Mine has been 12 years old which meant it needed to go.
Give Kook&Son an attempt, they will make you feel good
They looked in the boiler brought up the new one protected my timber flooring, were nice and explaining what they do. They were knowledgeable and handy.
You know that feeling that you're likely to get ripped off?
I took half a day away and met with the men (2 of them) in the apartment - They waited for about 15 minutes downstairs in their jogging truck before coming up (Not sure what that says but I figure I'd mention it...).

Son and kook aren't cheap, but hands down worth the money vs someone cheaper who'believes' it can be fixed by him. I'm happy to have discovered a business that knows how to work in an old residence.
It had been like the people from'This Old House" were working on mine!
His two workers were professional and extremely knowledgeable though he didn't do the real work in my machine. They understood how to fix every issue. Now rooms are toasty and hot!
I have a house with a water radiator heating system the exact same age. After two plumbers from different firms came and scratched their heads about how to fix my heating system, Howard Kook came over and immediately understood about and may explain every little quirk of this machine. I had been dismissed with his understanding.
