Annie's Ace Hardware - Petworth

Annie is loved by us. And we love her hardware store! Wondering the aisles for the item, When it's a home improvement project you will find us or to just see what fun thing she's in now! We love her two shops and Annie.

I got what I wanted and was quickly on my way, thanks to the hipster dude.
In my opinion, this place is currently trying to do a lot of. I think I saw what I think were fancy craft pops, neighborhood artwork and all sorts of other non-hardware stuff in what's assumed to be a hardware shop (rather than a very large one, at that). They ought to spend time and effort into hiring , knowledgeable staff that is more useful rather than stocking the shelves filled with crap that is novelty and employing people who can't or do not need to help clients.
The"helpful hardware folks" are DEFINITELY NOT abundant in this (pl)Ace.
Sheesh. The shop is only so large. Would it KILL me to walk ?
This was my final, and my first visit. I'll be moving back to the name home improvement stores from today on.
I wander over to the aisle and this wonderful hipster dude asks me if I need any help. (FINALLY! Someone who would like to perform their job!) . I tell him what I need and he walks right to it. The size is MUCH larger than I desired, and he informs me that the item also comes at a spray. Perfect!
This isn't the place to come if you would prefer an expedient visit... or if you would like consistent customer service. There are less than a dozen parking areas at this shop, which are shared with one other small business. The street parking at front of/near the shop fills up quickly, since there are other companies nearby.
I typically for to the larger home improvement stores, but I wanted to try to buy smaller and support local neighborhood companies... now I see why I do not.
I came in looking for a few Kilz to get a touch up paint project. As soon as her colleague pointed me to Andrea for assistance, she brusquely replied"What?! What do you need?" (Dropping that nasty attitude is a beginning...). She adds the aisle amount.

That the lady's name was forgotten by me but she had been Older and had eyeglasses in the register. The man on the ladder asked if I needed assistance and picked the soil I needed for my plant.

I had been educated on how much water the plant requires a foundation, pot size and variety of soil required, and questioned if it had been used indoor or outside.
The people at this place are extremely valuable in giving guidance to people that know nothing about gardening (myself). The cashier had been approached by 1 sales partner and provided me information before purchasing the items. She was very pleased to help me out!
I bought two planter pots, soil, and an plant. The plant is secure and safe but the plant is either in somebody else's lawn or garbage. :-LRB-
I walked from Annie's Hardware Petworth knowing how to plant. 2 days later after placing the plant in my apartment's front somebody stole it. :(

Annie's has a very fantastic garden choice (plants and all plant maintenance needs) during the warmer months, and sells Christmas trees throughout the winter. They're fully stocked with home improvement items and should have what you want unless it is specialty.
One great to know thing about this area is: you can rent a carpet cleaner! It's just around $30/day, though you really do have to buy the cleaning agent if you don't have some at home already. You'll need to put down a deposit too.
Great local alternative for hardware/houseware needs in a space that's larger than your average DC hardware space. Ace's Petworth place has a couple parking areas in front, but they positioned, so the more easy thing is usually just to park on the street in front.

I came in here after calling additional hardware stores in the area. I had been in a bit of a rush, because I had damaged somebody's window screen. I needed to have this item fast as possible in order to prevent problems with whoever owns the screen. I called everyone, and at least three other hardware stores I had talked to had. I finally spoke at this shop with Tony and he said he would have the ability to fix on the same day. I drove all the way to get this situation solved. Tony was right on stage, and he got straight to work. It took him just five minutes. Tony saved and he did what he said he would do, at the cost he promised!

First try: Walked there, waited for ages but got keyshome. 1 mile. One of the keys didn't work. Looked at it. Walked back to Annie's. 1.5 miles.
Third attempted . The guy was really nice and apologetic. He called someone else over. They looked at every key from the store it seemed. I said that I really really really had to go and they apologized and stated they couldn't help.
There was a lineup of ten people so that I walked into the front and asked the woman behind the register if I could get a refund quickly, since I'd been there three times and walked three miles total to get there and they had awakened each time and that I needed to catch an global flight. She was quite unkind and unsympathetic and stated"There is a line." I explained that I was VERY leaving for the airport to get an global work trip. She stated,"does not matter, you need to wait in line."
Attempt: Waited a bit but when I explained about my excursion and that this was my attempt, I obtained helped quickly. Got a secret. The guy (who was nice at least) chased up and down it would work (his literal words were"you can shoot me if it doesn't work"). Walked home. 2 miles. Key didn't work--didn't even match the lock, couldn't insert it.
Very bad experience. I had been late for an global flight (my fault) and wanted one more set of keys created to get a back up cat sitter. Annie's was reliable and is a mile away from me.
So I abandoned. I'm writing this from the taxi I must take to Dulles instead of public transportation, since I walked back and forth and waited in so many lines at Annie's now, and they took my money without giving me the secret that I paid for backup care for my kitty. Fortunately I have an extra set so she'll be okay, but it stinks. The experience was awful.

Help your employees understand! Educate tools etc.'s basics and them about all of your goods! The trades are a area that is dying but necessary!
Regrettably many of the employees understand very little about anything hardware related, whatever diy related, and basic terminology on tools and products etc. and can't answer questions regarding products, accessories, and/or processes.
I ended up with YouTube, google, and men and women who are employed in a trade to get information on what I need to buy to get a job.

My love for Annie's is based on my hatred for Home Depot, but it's still true. Annie's is that the opposite of Home Depot in each way. It's a locally owned neighborhood treasure filled with employees. Everyone who works there seems like that they have a lifetime of experience as handymen. The jacks-of-all-trades who operate there are able to answer all my in-depth, rapid fire questions regarding how to frame a room, the way to install drywall and electric sockets, etc. etc.. They conveniently rent tools. Their customer service is ON POINT!

I do not know what I would do without this location. Contrary to the big box stores they have exactly what you want based up the area. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable, costs are reasonable, and there is parking. Could not ask for anything more in a hardware store.

The alternative. When it first started, this place was good. Regrettably its lost its passion somewhere between the paint and the garden implements....its a hit or miss if you discover somebody and another gamble if you discover somebody without an apathetic attitude who clearly can't be bothered to assist and would rather you got lost in the plants outside the trunk. Its a shame it has a lot of potential.

The management and staff at this Ace location are unprofessional and rude and in dire need of customer support training. I'll be shopping at Ace Logan Circle (on 14th Street - that they have the best customer support, but road parking). Another great alternative is Gelliher & Huelly (an amazing family owned hardware and lumber store in business for 100 years located a mile up the road).

Individuals, rates and knowlegeable. I love supporting this place when I can. And I am happy the District keeps its bucks . Loathe to go some place else when they don't have it-I.

What a fantastic, customer service-oriented store! Jose was useful in helping me figure out the best method to replace a broken Prius key. It is well worth the drive to speak and have the opportunity to really help you, although I live right next to Home Depot!

Hands down the VERY best that a hardware store could be. This store has everything you'll need for all home repairs and much more and it is all easy to discover. But, I am writing this review due to the superb service I've received here the last two visits. It is participated and very rare to discover a retail location where employee is smiling and happy to assist. I couldn't imagine stepping foot into a big box hardware store. Kudos and thank you to Warren to your help today! This location is on a really brief list of retail brands that freaking"gets it".

Annie's is the hardware store that is go-to that is local. I found it about a year. I can't believe I moved without it!
Thing: The choice. Annie's is a fraction of the size of Home Depot, so there is no way they could have everything. There are a few cases so I'd need to go to Home Depot. But, I'd say about half of these cases Home Depot didn't have what I needed ! They are always pleased to order it for you, which I love, if Annie's does not have something in stock.
Thing #2: Their devotion to the area. Annie's participates and sponsors in a ton of volunteer events and Petworth arts. In the summer months they allow weekend bicycle tune-ups to be hosted by the Bike House in their own parking lot. And they always remember locals! The previous time I was there I met with Annie. She helped me find paint. I was a tiny neighborhood celebrity struck (bizarre, I know), but it was great to see that she engages with clients just as her staff could.
Thing #1: The place. They are conveniently located on my apartment and because they are not on a super busy road there is available parking.
Favorite thing The staff. Everyone is very helpful and friendly, and if they don't know the answer to your question / wants they will help find an answer. They fair, which I love. If they believe another product can do the work even if they don't have it in stock, they are upfront about it. I trust that they'll be honest with me.

The shop is fairly well stocked with overall household goods. It says so much about Annie's that they are ready to do this.
I didn't think the day would come where I state that I really like a hardware shop but I am.
Annie's is. The folks who work there are knowledgeable still welcoming and helpful. That Annie's in a nutshell.
The shop is dog friendly, and dogs get treats! The prices are higher than what you may discover online, but does Amazon provide your dog treats - or provide you helpful information on what not to purchase? It doesn't. Even the slight premium would be well worth the value of having a neighborhood shop that is part of their community.

This area is hit or miss. There have been , and someone wants to help me out. I also agree with a few other patrons, other times it's tough to find some help about what I'm up to or assisting me out, and the person at the checkout couldn't care less. I keep coming back because it will have a neighborhood vibe and it's the closest one to my house.

The choice and prices are good for such a tiny place. Nonetheless, it's the team that's amazing. You feel as if you've landed on the Isle of Misfit Toys where everybody is a little bit wacky but so sweet and helpful. It is like the Cheers of all shops.
