Been using them for over six years...a must have for tenants in older units. Seem cheap. Can't speak to the cost as it is covered by the landlord -probably a blessing!
Gordon (long term friendly worker ) and Tim (owners kid ) are amazing, prompt, knowledgeable, and on time. I've used them for many crisis and non-emergency plumbing issues associated with ERI business rentals (I rented as a UCB student and graduate researcher). Can' t go wrong and they are good at repairing heaters outdated century faucets, and relics of their era.

Low life!!! A supervisor and tim the proprietor son came out to fix our furnace. They had been down there 10 minuets and handed us a bill for almost 400.00, no parts Tim was perspiration a hard core drug attic and stripping out of his thoughts!!! I paid called there office to whined and someone called Chris stated that is"about" the standard charge for a heating call. Really? These people are crooks

After trying several other heating firms (not my first choices), I gave up and resigned myself to freezing for a week. Then the phone rang. It was Sandra stating that Tim (the owner's son) would be outside to the house soon.
This really is a Christmas miracle story. As you can imagine, this isn't the time of year to get heater problems -- not only in terms of temperature, but the simple fact is turning in their heaters to discover issues that are similar.
He proved to be professional, and was adamant about getting the job done as quickly as possible to save me money. He worked quickly and efficiently; informed me exactly what was wrong, the reason why, and what was wanted. He didn't charge for anything which wasn't needed, and didn't bill time when he had to go back to the store for a part that is different.
I feel the grade of support I purchased has a fantastic deal to do with how this really is a family enterprise. After Tim left, I felt confident that the job was done. I cannot recommend this company highly enough.
I had heard good reviews about Heating and Berkeley Plumbing, also called them. Obviously, they were booked at least. Sandra and I spoke, and explained my situation was dire. She was very sympathetic, but said that there was nothing which could be done to move the date. This is the place where the miracle comes in...

Watch out! These guys charge so if they finish your work and after that take 6 minutes to write the bill, you'll be charged for 2:00 pm! You are also charged by them if they did not bring the instrument and needed to go back to the shop.

Today Tim checked to make sure everything was ok today and came over. Super fantastic and helpful service.
In a set of stupid events my deoderant fell down my toilet and got smashed. I phoned Berkeley Plumbing and walked down the street because their phones were outside, and as I walked , I was greeted with immediate and kindness assistance. Without a appointment or anything Tim (who's family owns the business) walked to my apartment and fixed the problem very fast. An issue that big was fixed in just a little under one hour today, and no ill effects have been seen by me.

I called to replace a thermocoupler that was broken . The producer recommended them bc they have the part in stock and the part is under warranty. However, Berkeley Plumbing quoted me twice what everyone else has = $352. They added within an hour for travel time because I am in Oakland and they are in Berkeley. Any advantage getting the part for free has been erased by these charging me twice as far as everyone else. I will pass.

I had been billed at a speed plus traveling time for 2hrs of work nearly $400 once the project took only 1hr and 20 minutes. Regrettably I want it to install two bathroom sinks they told me no they won't do the job(I thought all plumber could perform these) because my sinks looked modern? I never heard such justification. Since I was paying by the hour I had to run around and find projects for them if they advertise 100 years of experience?

I phoned Berkeley Plumbing & Heating Company to ask if they perform an emergency repair to a ruptured gas line join at our property and could come out. The dispatcher put a plumber at stake, who required that I send them photographs of the pipe assembly. I told them I could describe the part, in addition to the issue they'd have to repair it, yesterday, which PG&E had described to us. He had been skeptical, but handed me back. She demanded that I furnish photos of the issue, and I realised that start the job and they just needed to come out. She got testy, and hung me up. Before calling this company, I must have read the other Yelp reviews. They deserve their bad reputation.

Our customary handyman was outside of town so we phoned Berkeley Plumbing and Heating to fix an old two wall heater that was not heating on both sides. They came out and after spending roughly 50 minutes attempting to take out the heating meeting, gave up, stating heaters that old needed to be"taken apart from the very top down." They advocated took our check for $176, even though they didn't fix anything and just getting a heater that was new. He managed to take out the heating meeting because he worked on these, As soon as our aide came back into town. He reinstalled it, charging 125 and cleaned the heating element - it works as good as it actually did. We attempted to get at least a partial compensation from Berkeley Plumbing and Heating but they refused. I do not know how great they have been with plumbing issues and haven't used this company for almost any other services but I certainly would not recommend them for problems with wall replacements.

Had a plumbing crisis over the holidays with sewage pouring into the basement from a pipe. Left a distress message the BP&H voicemail. They had a team out an hour later and called me in 8:01 the first work day after the holiday. Everything happened as fast and efficiently as you can, although it took 2 weeks to replace 10 ft of the sewar pipe Since the basement had pumping out. It's easy to see why these men are in biz for over a century. Big thanks.

I moved in with the valves from a 50 year old kitchen faucet that a place in West Berkeley had rejuvenated. It'd leaked almost from the place in West Berkeley from day one , even after I bought yet more components and brought it back once. I took it into Berkeley Plumbing and one of the plumbers must have spent with me finding all of the tiny components to reconstruct the valves, 20 or 30 minutes. It was not cheap (about 45 dollars out the door), but cost less than I had been charged elsewhere and works better than ever. As the guy at the counter said, that faucet is like having a 1930's rolls royce (perhaps he said Cadillac). It is rare today, to discover this kind of service that is KNOWLEDGABLE and I'll keep going backagain.

When called in the middle of night, gordon was a gentleman.
He was able to estimate a replacement device, and schedule an installation for this sixty year-old radiant heating method, although he couldn't correct the device.
I should have called Berkeley Plumbing when the radiant heat system went blink years back.
The only problem with the installation with the new heating system from Berkeley Plumbing was because we'd heat for the first time in years, that the PGE bill in January travelled from $30 per month to $200.
Heat really nicely.

How difficult is a toilet currently flashing job? Took 15 minutes to them, they billed their minimum rate of $160 and $15 for equipment. Gear? Do not plumbing companies typically have rooter equipment as part of the job? We'll be paying for plungers.
Too expensive for a standard occupation, which should be $125.

Each and every tech they have sent out over the decades was polite and very knowledgeable about our ancient (and irritating ) toilets. Stormy is the newest, and he's been around the house at least twice.
I am shocked at some of those reviews.

Ihas been fortunate enough to call Berkeley Plumbing & Heating the year, and've lived in Berkeley for 2 decades now. They gave company that was excellent to me, and I have been a loyal customer ever since.

Excellent service! I have an old shower from the 1920's that leaked, I known as Berkeley Plumbing, receptionist very helpful and friendly. Stormy came out and was very friendly, fast and useful! Reasonable rates and fixed it! You have a loyal customer from now on!

Since the story is far to long to get into here, I will just state that Gordon needed to come back and do it again and did a job at his first effort. Wasting my time, the painters moment not to mention the time.
There are lots of Plumbers out there that do a great job and will show up in your work site and will be pleasant and nice for you personally, Berkeley Plumbing isn't that corporation. I would use them.
The Contractor was so upset with Gordon, he stated that he won't ever use Berkeley Plumping EVER! Nor will I or should you.
We had a very unpleasant experience with Berkeley Plumbing. Gordon, the plumber who showed updid a job on a job that is very easy, he was very unpleasant to be about. He was rude, condescending, loud and mean to me, my wife, (the customer) and to his fellow colleagues. He cried facing a set of different employees, general contractor, painters and electricians, embarrassing him terribly for a mistake that wasn't his fault.

To increase the insult, a couple of days after, a bill arrived doing the estimate.
My information..., If you are on Yelp, then you are one step ahead of this game..., Proceed on to the next plumber on your listing. .
Very disappointing. Called them to get a quote. - that I anticipated would be free. Their refused to deliver a firm estimate and would just provide time and materials, with an anticipated"minimum price." . Their price estimate was approximately 3 times greater than the plumbing firm I hired.
If I could afford them zero stars I really don't know - the minimum is just one. However, in this day when companies should offer superior service to attract and maintain clients, this company is currently doing just the opposite.

I waited until 4:15PM, and then called to create sure they didn't loose my appointment - that the person who replied"moved me upstairs to dispatch" where I had been put into voice mail. So I left a message, and someone didn't call me back 15 minutes later (thankfully because now we're getting close to 5PM on a Friday, and didn't need my appointment to be dropped because I had my plumbing issue solved ). He said he had tried to call the plumber, but he was not picking up, but he left my cell number on the plumber's voice mail and as soon as he was done, he'd call and come over. Thought I better go over to the house so that I would be there to meet him when he predicted. When I got around there, I discovered they had left a note stating they had"missed me" and could be back at 1:50PM.
So needless to say, I called another company, because I had to have this done before Sat afternoon and had them come to Saturday morning.
Hello! - needless to say you"missed me" since I mentioned when I made the appointment, I need to be called before you come over.
They need to get a bit more organized over there based on me...
So after waiting all day on a Friday, first relieved that I managed to fine someone to come same day, then I end up in need of a plumber at 6:30PM on a Friday because they couldn't maintain themselves organized over at Berkeley Plumbing Co.. And they're not open on the weekends (that is fine they have the right to be open when they need - but let me know if it is not going to work so I can find someone else!) . My advice: a little bit more communicating with clients would go a long way.
Morning to get an appointment looked at. Favorable gentleman gave me an appointment that day - I was relieved that I could find someone to come the exact same day since I did not want to attempt to schedule someone to come on Saturday. I asked they call me when they were 20 minutes away as I do not live at the house - he said alright, and said that it was also possible that they may be available first, and would call me if they were the situation as well.
And calling the primary Berkeley Plumbing Co office following 5PM isn't of any help - that time goes out of the office everyone, and they do not have any sort of pager service, therefore no way to contact anyone. A message was left by me, but they do not pick up messages after 5PM on Friday either has I've not heard from them.
So I don't expect I would be using Berkeley Plumbing Co again... They may do excellent work, but does not seem like I'll find out.

These individuals scammed us. They said we had a second opinion and billed us for three visits. They told us they were going to be here at a time, if no one was home, charged us for your trip and arrived early. Never gave us a quote. Took a week to get a job done.

Buyer Beware!
Of course you are billed. In addition, the installation wasn't completed in the best possible manner and makes it more likely that sink will back up in future.
I predicted to have somebody come out and look at the work. I was yelled at by him! What sort of conflict resolution abilities did he use? Got no satisfaction and needed to call a second plumbing firm as desired use of kitchen sink.
