Enter: Neal. In aisle 13. (The pipes section). I showed him pictures of what remnants of this prototype I had left hanging on for dear life for my tow hitch setup. Once he realized that my car had been parked outside, we assessed the situation and went out. Every step along the way he helped me recreate the good and improve upon the other design flaws construct. He made the 2.0 layout in the shop and made sure that I was pleased with the results. He even helped pieces that were certain are attached by me to my vehicle in THE PARKING LOT. Let me repeat: laid back to attach said items to my car. At the parking lot.
I have NEVER in my whole life ever received this amount of detailed customer service from any of the big box"home improvement" shops. I'm lucky if they even know what I'm talking about when I have gone previously. Do your self a favor. You'll have a fantastic time. (The women in customer service were friendly and knowledgeable too. In fact among them paged Neal to assist me.)
My Dad produced a prototype to hold the 4 horizontal wiring needed to connect my car to a trailer and graciously set my car up with a hitch. Let me paint a picture of stated prototype: imagine a plumbing pipe piled up and attached to my car with zip ties and capped off at one end with a hole drilled into let the wiring , and a screw cap in front to sew all if not being used. Well said prototype was damaged during my last move, and next week I need to go out of SF! Time to fix this prototype's remnants. Or so I thought.

I am.
I had a piece of glass trim. The man who cut on my course used - and billed me for - a bigger piece of glass than I needed. Irritating. Be careful of being ripped off when getting glass cut. Or man. It isn't reasonable to make accusations with no proof, but... just my hunch.
I have bought a whole lot of lumber from DB, plumbing equipment, tools, etc.. Service is fine. I want to encourage neighborhood, although prices are higher than big box stores. DB was my location.

Not a major stock, but employees are knowledgeable and helpful. If their employees worked at Lowe's.

I've got a love hate relationship with DBS. I love that they have such a choice of materials and tools. I love that they always appear to have exactly what I want. I love that their employees can answer my queries, and if they don't understand the answers they don't insult me by trying to BS me (like a few of the folks in the major chain stores), but they will go find another worker who probably will know the solution.
I hate that I can not go into grab a box of screws or using browsing the specials.

I make the mistake of going here because it is near and convient. When asking a question, the team is never useful rarely nice, and always act as if you're bothering them. Don't waste your money or time. Lowe's and home deport are much better and cheaper.

I have been searching at these locations for decades and because Lowe's Bayshore. Lowe's total employee morale is low exemplify or with supervisors failing to inspire customer relations. The other I mention have a lot more merchandise and program employees in San Francisco than Lowe's. At Lowes on Bayshore Blvd., the low morale and lethargy can only be blamed at the top direction, both regional and local. My client relations enables conditions which are at the core of a store problems to be spotted by me.
Discount Builders Supply is possessed by precisely the same family who ran and possessed Hardware Store and Goodman Lumber on precisely the same spot where Lowes is located. The friendly, very helpful, very knowledgeable atmosphere was as great then as it stays.
Even if some products cost a little bit more elsewhere, but the gracious, very knowledgeable, and beneficial level of customer service at Discount Builders Supply is well worth the time to drive there. I wish I had the opportunity to shop. Every advise and every item those guys advise me to buy has never been wrong. Because those men at Discount Builders Supply, I've learned with confidence and how to make more property repairs myself. At Lowes, I wind up telling - no exaggeration.
I am more than an occasional woman shopper of hardware and home improvement supplies of all sorts. 97% of my retail resources are Discount Builders, Center Hardware, Lowe's on Bayshore Blvd., and Home Depot with lesser frequency because it is farther away in my San Francisco home. As it is fewer moments with longer hours is. But it's likewise the worse with respect to inept managers , largely product ignorant floor staffing with infrequent exceptions, customer apathy, consistent restocking, and also the highest total employee turnover among the other hardware type shops.

I went to DBS trying to replace my bath faucet. Neil approached to give his sound advice and pointed me after looking at the screens for a while. When I inquired why he steered me away from the higher priced version, '' he clarified that, if it flow in the future, components were costly and harder to find. The middle priced one was reliable and components were more easy to come by.
Super pleased with the customer service that I received from Neil from the plumbing department!
He took the time to take apart my faucet, and have a look at the inner workings, seemed for components to replace, and ultimately set me up with a few CLRnew washers, and other products to get the job done right. He answered all of my questions, asked me if I had any more, and sent me on my way. Thanks Neil, for your help! I will definitely be back!
It was then I showed that the faucet I looked to replace to him. In addition to preferring the design, it's proven difficult as it had been stopped by the manufacturer no taps were fitting in my tight bathroom set-up. He looked it over to see what we can do to fix it.

((PICS: Bob showed me the best strategies to assemble the table. Another gentleman wrapped everything nice and tidy because he knew I was likely to be walking home))
This place is the BEST. I don't understand why I've been moving so far out of the city (to Home Depot) for my own timber and hardware needs! Their team was incredible, every single one of these. I spoke to 6 people and all them were just as friendly and helpful as the last. Learn to Bob! Bob helped me access all the materials I needed for a table. He has been patient and precise and gave me great ideas. He made this experience so satisfying. I will be back!

I wish my first yelp review could happen to be a positive one... I've been coming her for years but no more,, to day I had a dreadful experience. . I enter the shop and was requested to leave my luggage. . The mrg told me it was there policy and I told him I was my policy I do not leave my luggage unattended because It contained my notebook,, and when you do give them the luggage they place it on the filthy floor that he was completely rude about it... and then I asked him all I desire is box of 60 grit sandpaper.... , fairly aggressive and rude considering that I came out of my solution to store I figure I will continue to go to my local Hardware store it is really heartbreaking to see that this place has lost idea of costumer support...

A fantastic choice, excellent prices, real products, and people who go out of the way and know something.
Prices are lower than Lowe's, and I like buying local.
I've bought timber (cut to size), good cordless tools, and hardware stuff I can not seem to locate elsewhere.
These guys (and gals) rock.

We arrived in because we had to correct a sewer plate around the sidewalk, apparently there is a rash of sewer thefts at San Francisco. Everyone we met at Discount Builders was so wonderful! So nice and so helpful and knowledgeable - why can't every hardware supply shop be like Discount Builders? They made our day and we were out and in in a heartbeat.

When they tell you to start looking for Jose, consider them.
P.S.. This shop makes The Home Depot look just like Macy's. The Home Depot caters to weekend warriors. .
I go back to where Jose is helping wait patiently and the client. The cap in his hand drops when it's finally my turn and he announces that it's an end cap for wire shelving. Wire shelving! All this time that I've been looking in the area with rubber tips for seat legs. D'oh. Jose, Thank you!
I proceed to aisle 16 and Jose is assisting someone, therefore I look for the next closest employee:"Hmmm...I do not understand. I stocking. Assess with Jose."
Jose's still busy so I look for the next, next closest employee:"Hmmm...I do not know if we've got anything like that. You should consult Jose. He's over there by which way wall."
P.P.S. Ladies, if you want blue collar types, come shop here. I saw quite a few cuties.
The nice young woman at the doorway looks at the little rubber end cap I reveal her"Hmmm. . .not sure when we've got that. Assess with Jose over near aisle 16."

In addition, I feel like I have unraveled what they're around. It's possible to buy countertop materials that are high-end that are crazy but 8-10 feet away are $20 mirrors and Chinese bathroom vanities. I was seeking bathroom vanities that have been, say, in between: far nicer than the $200 Chinese melamine, but reduced conclusion than Dekton counters. No one on the ground at the time was interested or knowledgeable, so I proceeded on. But I got some inspiration for mirrors and lighting and may see windows and tile and it is a shop that's not HD/Lowe's. And it has been in SF more than I have, which at this stage is couple companies!
In summary: Go whenever you have the time to wait (it is popular/packed). Expect hit or miss in the knowledge and willingness depts. Ask for what you want/need. Be happy to sit through it. Probably worth it.
Prices are extremely competitive if you're willing to deal who do not always want to assist you. I get heart palpitations considering walking to Home Depot or Lowe's, but I feel like I can eventually get a knowledgeable individual who might even be passionate about it. I do not have to get done what I want to get done if I have time limitations .

Love, love, can't believe I haven't written a review earlier, and love this neighborhood institution. I am grateful to DBS for stocking the N95 masks in SF during our previous week of air quality and also for keeping everyone posted via Facebook whenever they had run out or were expecting a shipment. Thanks for looking after our area's requirements, DBS! Also, their light department is superb. I have been coming here for many years to replace bulbs and sconces for your fixtures in apartments I have lived in. John, a staff member at the light department, really knows his stuff and constantly helps me identify the right bulbs to avoid that"We All Live in a Yellow Submarine" feeling throughout the dark winter season. Thank you and thank you!

Friendly staff, navigated me towards option and also cut on the wood to sizes I needed. Overall great experience.

I introduced my Grandmother from the store to pick up a few items and I was completely missing THANK GOD Shirley was there to assist us in locating all the items at the store which we needed and made excellent recommendations on which blinds would be a perfect match for our property. Fantastic customer service is difficult to come by but she made our experience here easy!! and welcoming

For being in the middle of town hardware shop. Rates are somewhat high, but who's surprised ?

Just like a giant ACE Hardware. There is a lot of help and they know what they're referring to. It's somewhat hard to get though. A rear entrance is also from Van Ness.
This location is head and shoulders over Home Depot and Lowe's to get a"big box" a hardware shop. Home Depot is okay. Lowe's is awful. Orchard Supply is just another fantastic choice but they don't appear to have as much in terms of construction materials.
