They possess the lightbulbs nobody else in the area has. Along with the men, who initially look really gruff, are funny and sweet. One gave me a course based on the total along with his name of my bill.
Crappy interior. Come to think of it, crappy outside. Their business card has, like, phones and six different company names listed, not one of that align with Yelp. On top of that,"86th St Locksmith" isn't really on 86th Street. I really don't know about the"locksmith" part either; they look like a hardware store that also does lamp repair.
I really like this city.
First of all, this place is not called street locksmith. It's not about 86th so idk where this yelp page originates from. The name out says blossom locksmith. The location is ok. They are friendly occasionally they aren't. What drives me mad is they don't list the costs of anything!! Normally this might make me turn right around and leave a location but there are not any other choices close by on 2nd Ave so it is what it is. If you're in a pinch for something you can get in a hardware store this place will have everything you're looking for.
Came in to purchase sandpaper. Got discounted and when I asked for assistance, I appear to bother him. No one was at the store and he wasn't busy. I told him to show him that type of sandpaper is fantastic for my need and he was troubled. I walked out and told him to forget it. I won't ever go there again.
Anyhow, to get a service as cutting I would hope for it to be accurate- so I could actually use the key. Alas, will not be returning .
I went home and of course tried to use the secret and it did not work. I tried a few more times did not work and then I understand there was a section of the teeth that was completely off from the first key and carefully examined the key.
After calling the bar I was at, they had found my keys, although I was frustrated and ready to go back for a copy.
I lost my flat keys on a night and so the next morning I got to take my roommate's keys down the street here in order to get a copy made. On the bright side, the key has been made very quickly, and also the price was right ($3.95)... however the key did not work!
Really like this place. . .one of the men that works there -- that may or may not have spoken English -- took one look at the non-standard lightbulb I had in my hands (of which I had 4) and wordlessly guided me into the shelf with a pile of exact fits. In and out in under 5 minutes.
BTW- this place Is Based on 2nd btwn 88th and 89th Though the Title says 86) Its also a pretty decent little hardware shop. I am not surprised by the other review about the employees being abrupt, at first but they turned out to become just and hysterical hard-nosed new yorkers after waiting a couple minutes for the keys. They will answer everything and help you out, they wont go the extra mile.
That is the place to 15, When you have a key that cant be made! I've one of those keys together with the dimples inside, I went to five additional locksmiths and nobody had they key or else they couldn't perform the cut. I finally found one place (Abbey on 80 and 2nd) they said they could do it, but I had to go back 4 times since they keys never functioned, they finally just gave me my money back. I go to the place and presto all is great!
Rates are ok - but not a bargain
I gotta give these guys five starts because I trudged through several manufacturers until I discovered these guys.
Great hardware store. Has pretty much anything you need for do it yourself projects. The area is carried tight with all types of tools, nails, paints, gear, lighting, etc.. Should you need keys created this is the place. Carries a supply of keys, safety routers, locks. Very convenient.
I went into this place to get a key duplicated and has been told it would take months and would cost $200. I thought he was joking and laughed, but he looked at me like I had been an idiot and told me that I wouldn't find a better deal anywhere. At this point I thought the guy tried to tell him it was a secret, not a high safety and was insane, but it didn't seem to matter for him or he didn't care enough to listen to. He advised me to leave and see if I could find. So I did. It took 3 minutes and cost . Pretty crappy way to run a small business.
In searching for wood screws, went and found siding, equipment, masonry brass. . .everything but. After finally giving up and asking, all I had was"back there," and also a thumb jabbed at the back of the store. Another few minutes of fruitless searching and I left one of the hardware shops that are many in walking distance from my apartment.
This place does have a lot of supplies packed into a little space.
Don't know their hours. Walked there at 8:22 pm and they had been shut. So that I knocked on the window, saw a man inside. In two minutes I had two key copies done for 5 bucks!
AWFUL! Rude and arrogant with knowledge to back up it. Rates are expensive and look if they like your face or made up dependent on the mood they are in. I am amazed this place remains in business... that it must be a front. There are numerous hardware shops in a few blocks which are MUCH better.

They cut keys from Mul-T-lock serial numbers. Fast service, essential worked first time.

They had a few things I did need, although little pricey and didn't have exactly what I needed. I had improved, not awful experience.

Service with prices that are high. There are much better stores in the region. Avoid this place!
