Minus one star for cost
1 star for coming back multiple times to fix the lock
Updating my review to 3 stars for'A-OK'. The next lock which Houdini set has now officially lasted 3 months, causing me to think that the lock itself was faulty (as a followup call from Houdini indicated. . .faulty lock = fault of the producer, not the locksmith).
1 star for its friendly, cheerful locksmith
Minus one star for my ordeal the next time around (not getting a callback after 40 minutes, locksmith stating he would need to bill me all over again as mentioned in my original review).
Avoid or pay the (large ) price!
That it was Houdini. No question.
Unless it's serious, I do not give bad reviews to companies - leave be, rate as ordinary, or I prefer to lift fantastic companies. However, I'd give these folks zero stars and feel it's my obligation to share my experience.
The Houdini locksmith that showed up requested I make a payment in money to get a discount - this ought to have been a warning, but this was a front door a attention that was needed. I hunted up the parts as soon as they left and discovered their COST had been EXTREMELY HIGH. I contacted Wilensky Lock & Hardware - which by the way, speeds 4.5 stars - their quote was half as much. When I called the exact same day I was unable to recover the cash, they would not budge. They never again answered a call . As this type behaviour deserves a response, I must have tried through small claims court. In the end the job price what they quoted (performed by Wilensky) including the money that they would not return. Had their reception said"no dues" - I'd take great obligation. I pay money up front of discount.
To the response:
By far this company Houdini Lock & Safe stands out as a pioneer in business! With regard to clients and my staff, from my first call to them they have been quite considerate, educated in their repair and replacement of my locks and prompt in their response. I would highly recommend them to anybody who is looking to handle their lock and needs that are safe
Ok, so $350 for a service call! That is outrageous. My renter couldn't get into his condominium at 4 o'clock Wednesday so that I figure you had him right where you wanted him. For taking the lock apart, then an extra $51 then adding an extra $125 and switch to parts? . . .add the tax and it was 564 and that he needs to replace the Called Delaware Valley Locksmith found out an entirely new lock and as guided by condominium management could be $475.
Yeah, there is a reason why Houdini gets the worst reviews. $400 + got billed for just getting us rather than fixing our lock. They charge a 10% credit card charge too. Terrible and happy we'll never have to use them.
Of all of the stores in Philadelphia, this is the one that has made me consider leaving town. I had been ripped them off in such as way, it is embarrassing to recall it. I consented to a fancy lock for my door and ended up paying over $1000 for a lock and access to a fire safe that was busted. OMG. THey are the worst.
This guy came recommended from the desk in my building in center city. I knew she suggested she adored them and needed a new battery inside her safe. With no can do, they responded. The safe will be replaced by us and hung up the telephone .
He might be popular but I would not use this service
Not great customer service.
We phoned another locksmith that changed the battery and came out
Update. Larry called 2 months after the above mentioned service. Wonderful guy.
Response but OUTRAGEOUS price. I'd have cancelled the appointment, In my locksmith had called me. Part of running a successful business is being fair and not screwing potential customers simply as you possibly can. 177.00 to show up and 95 in additional prices for 15 minutes. Steer very dissatisfied, use and clear someone else. Sean Ogden
I went to their newly remodeled shop and Steve was knowledgeable and quite nice on all things keys and locks. I had a Locksmith question about a Electronic Lock and he got a hold of one of their Security Engineers who was fantastic. I bought that lock and they constructed the bypass key to coincide with my door. Excellent!
I had them drill a Larry was out of breath. He complained how difficult it had been.
It was a fire safe. I guess I was the idiot for paying them however the CCard would have billed anyway. Utilize Houdini if you'd love to watch your money disappear.
Larry is thief!
After speaking with several lock and companies without mentioning the name they said Houdini .They said Larry. It took a entire amount of 25 minutes to start a safe me charged over $ 1100 to him he desired an 350.
I had a key for my recently rented apartment. I was told by the people at this store because mine was not a first, they wouldn't ensure that the key they made could work. Good grief! Who has an original key for a 20 year old apartment? Sure enough, it didn't work. I went to Home Depot, had the duplicated at half the cost. The fellow at HD grimaced, and had a peek at the key which Houdini made.
Who understood locking yourself out would cost around $350. The guys were courteous, but on the phone I had been told it'd be around $160, the guy had to go through our garage and an interior door, untold to me until the invoice it's an additional $75 each lock, for a grand total of $370. That is highway robbery. For us it was just after 5 pm or we would have called another place. If you lock yourself take your company elsewhere.
Only spoke out of Houdini's to Larry and he is ready to fix the matter with both non keys. Being a local business I am willing to give Houdini an second chance.

Got a copy of some keys made. Cost about $25 for five keys. Cash only. A bit more expensive than I anticipated. The man behind the counter was nice.

Sad that this business owner is most likely the worst. Rude and expensive. Used him twice desire that I would have seen the reviews
